Volunteer Opportunities

  • The Administrative Office is seeking individuals interested in volunteering throughout the year to assist with a variety of administrative or secretarial tasks. A bookkeeping assistant is needed. Having a background with Quickbooks would be helpful, but it is not a requirement. It is an ideal volunteer position for a retired professional or a student.

  • The Museum Store is seeking individuals interested in volunteering through the year to assist with the sale of items, the annual inventory and the sale of merchandise.

  • The Society has a need for individuals interested in assisting members and patrons in researching family and local history as well as making collections accessible to the public. A volunteer in our Library retrieves books and documents, makes photocopies, helps with research for in-house visitors as well as patrons who mail in requests. Volunteers also help organize our ever-expanding collection of materials.

  • The Programming Committee is seeking individuals interested in volunteering throughout the year to assist in the planning and implementation of special events and programs. Finding quality programs for presentation, either on our own or networking with other organizations, is an on-going challenge. Also, duties can include, set up, light food preparation, ticket sales, greeting patrons.

  • The Society needs volunteers interested in assisting with the preservation and cataloguing of artifacts. Computer skills are required.

  • The Society has its home within a historic school building built during the Civil War and it needs care and maintenance both inside and out. A handy person is always welcome for displaying artifacts and light carpentry.

  • There is a need for individuals to volunteer throughout the year to assist in school and group tours. Don’t worry about remembering all the information as a written tour guide manual is available. Volunteers willing to give presentations on behalf of the Society off the premises when requested by civic, retirement and social groups are also needed.

  • Assist with writing and/or gathering information for the Society’s bimonthly newsletter, article writing, social media content creation, graphic design or other marketing tasks.
