Membership in the Society is your participation in our mission of promoting and preserving Schuylkill County’s history. Membership dues provide a portion of the operating expenses for maintenance of the Society building, exhibit development, and community programming.

How to Join or Renew

There are many convenient ways to join or renew your membership, whether it is through our website, mailing in a check and renewal form, calling the Society, or visiting the gift shop! Annual membership dues are valid for one year from the month of enrollment or renewal.

Benefits of Membership

  • The Schuylkill County Historical Society Museum

    The museum, housed in the Society building, allows visitors to stroll through history. Exhibits feature Schuylkill County Civil War history and the Pottsville Maroons, among many others. Thousands of artifacts are preserved and exhibited here. Members are entitled to free tours of the museum.

  • Schuylkill County Historical Society Gift Shop

    Our gift shop has many unique and historic localized gift items, as well as books of local history for sale. Be sure to check out our large inventory of Maroons merchandise! Members receive 10% off all items in the Gift Shop.

  • Our Excellent Newsletter, Schuylkill Heritage

    This multipage publication, printed and distributed six times a year, is almost worth the cost of membership alone! There are articles about historical sites around Schuylkill County, an updated calendar of events, committee news, an updated list of new acquisitions and artifacts, and other fun features. Available via mail or email.

  • Research Library and Archives

    Our extensive library collection is an excellent source of genealogical information for Schuylkill County. Beyond genealogy, the library houses thousands of unique early records from the region, with topics ranging from the Civil War to the Molly Maguires. To find out more about the resources available, visit our Research Page. Members are afforded free unlimited use of the library and discounts on assisted research.

  • Programs and Events

    Society members enjoy free entry to many of our fun and informative programs, as well as discounted tickets for all hands-on workshops. Programs are also available via Zoom for those who can’t make it to the Society in person.
